Hairy but not scary. Happy to be me.

Hello and bonjour. I’m Atchoum, a Persian male from Repentigny, Quebec. I purr with a French accent. People say my wild fur and intense amber eyes make me look like a dog, an owl, a mad scientist, a Gremlin, the Lorax or the Grinch — I’m just me.

My life began like a normal Persian kitten born on May 10, 2014. Then it was discovered I have a very rare congenital condition called hypertrichosis — also known as werewolf syndrome.

It means fast, continual hair growth. My mom Nathalie is a groomer, so she keeps the mad-scientist look without overdoing it. I found my forever home with two humans, two children and three other cats. Articles about me ran on BuzzFeed, Mashable, People and newsrooms around the world.

I’m funny like a clown, obsessed with the fridge ice machine, and I have a complicated love-hate with a plush named The Enemy. Life is good. Enjoy every day.
